Feeling Stuck, Change Your Environment
Ever notice how the energy in your life can get a little… stale? Maybe work feels like a dead end, your relationship is in a rut, or you’re just not feeling like yourself. I’m a huge believer in the power of changing your environment to shift your energy and open up new possibilities.
I’ve seen this firsthand. When my partner and I moved to Paris, everything changed. We got pregnant, welcomed our baby here, and-maybe most surprising of all-my creativity exploded. New city, new energy, new opportunities. It was as if stepping onto a different train set my whole life on a new track.
This isn’t just about big moves, though. Think about a fussy baby: sometimes, all it takes to calm them down is moving them to a new room or changing their position. The same principle applies to us adults. When things feel stagnant-whether it’s your job, your relationship, or your own mood-sometimes the best thing you can do is shake things up.
One of the most powerful ways I’ve found to do this is through MOVEMENT-especially DANCING. Whenever I feel stuck, I put on my own “dance therapy” playlist. It’s an eclectic mix: everything from indigenous medicine music to psychedelic rock, 90s hip hop, and today’s hits. I love a good bassline; honestly, I think it can heal anything! There’s something magical about letting your body move freely to the rhythm-no rules, just pure release. It shifts your vibrational frequency and opens up space for new energy to come in.
Here are a few simple ways to shift your energy:
- DANCE IT OUT 💃🕺 Put on your favorite song or playlist and let yourself move however you want. Don’t overthink it-just feel the music.
- GO FOR A WALK or HIKE Moving your body moves your mind.
- CHANGE YOUR ROUTINE Try a new café, take a different route to work, or rearrange your furniture, brush your teeth with your non-dominant hand
- CHANGE YOUR LOOK Wear something colorful or pull out that unique accessory or piece you have been waiting to wear, part your hair the opposite direction
- LEAVE If you can swing it, a day trip or weekend getaway can work wonders, get in nature or take that road trip you have been wanting to take: windows down singing your favorite song hair blowing in the wind
- STEP AWAY from the PROBLEM Even a few hours away from your usual environment can help you see things differently.
So, if you’re feeling stuck this week, try changing your environment-even in a small way-and don’t underestimate the power of movement, especially dancing, to shift your energy. Make an interesting choice. Shake up your routine. See what opens up for you.
THE FINAL STEP: BE INTENTIONAL- when you come back to the environment you left, claim a new way, a new approach, a new outlook and say “This time will be different.”
I’d love to hear how it goes! Drop a comment or reply and let me know what you tried and what shifted.
Here’s to new energy and new adventures,

This is such a powerful reminder. Sometimes it’s not the internal block that needs solving, it’s the external stuckness that needs shifting. I’ve found the same to be true in my own work: even a small change in environment can rewire something that felt immovable. And dancing is a definite yes. Exercise too. There’s something ancient and healing in letting the body lead before the mind catches up.
Thank you for this. Curious—was there a moment in Paris when you knew everything had shifted?
